A shade, a spirit or ghost of a dead person, residing in the Underworld. Latin for the innermost and darkest part of a shadow, where the light source is completely blocked and experiencing a total eclipse, usually by a celestial body.

Goddess of Night. A shadowy and great cosmogonical figure, feared even by Zeus, Nyx stood at the beginning of creation and was envisaged as the very substance of night - a veil of dark mists drawn across the sky to obscure the light of Aither, the shining blue of the heavens. She mothered Aither (Light), Hemera (Day), Eros (Desire) and other daemons or personified deities such as the Dreams (Oneiroi), the Death Spirits (Keres), the Nymphs of Evening (Hesperides), Apate (Deceit), Eris (Strife), Geras (Old Age), Hybris (Arrogance), Hypnos (Sleep), Momos (Blame), Moros (Doom), Nemesis (Revenge), Oizys (Misery), Philotes (Friendship) & Thanatos (Death).
